Effectiveness of a Local Recruitment Registry

Background

Few studies have examined the effectiveness of recruitment registries. Researchers studied referrals to clinical research studies from the University of California-Irvine’s Consent-to-Contact local registry, as well as registrants’ research attitudes.

Findings

The results point to the effectiveness of carefully designed local registries and potential use of research attitude questionnaires. Over a period of approximately 7.5 years, the registry made 6,314 referrals involving 3,843 unique registrants to 57 unique research studies; of these referrals 1,641 (26%) resulted in enrollment. Positive research attitudes were associated with greater likelihood of enrollment in higher-burden clinical research.
