Background
Collection and analysis of prescreening data across sites in a multi-site trial could provide valuable information to improve understanding of recruitment interventions. Researchers developed an electronic data capture system to centrally collect a subsect of prescreening variables before study-wide implementation in the AHEAD 3–45 study.
Collection and analysis of prescreening data across sites in a multi-site trial could provide valuable information to improve understanding of recruitment interventions. Researchers developed an electronic data capture system to centrally collect a subsect of prescreening variables before study-wide implementation in the AHEAD 3–45 study.
Findings
Seven vanguard sites provided prescreening data on 1,029 participants, with number of prescreens varying widely across sites (ranging from 3 to 611). From these preliminary data, researchers found that referrals through websites (including the study website, site website, and ClinicalTrials.gov) accounted for a substantial proportion of prescreens. They also identified early trends suggesting that certain recruitment sources may be more effective for specific racial and ethnic groups.
