Community Memory Screening as a Strategy for Recruiting

Background

Researchers at the University of California, San Diego examined whether free community memory screening events could identify potential participants and help recruit them into ongoing Alzheimer’s disease studies.

Findings

Across six single-day events over two years, 574 individuals completed memory screening.  Of those screened, 378 (66%) agreed to join a research registry and 109 (19%) enrolled in Alzheimer’s disease research. Findings suggest that concentrated community memory screening events may be a relatively effective and efficient recruitment strategy.
