Biography
Steven L. Lamy is a professor emeritus in the University of Southern California’s School of International Relations which is now the Department of Politics and International Relations. He spent some thirty years a Professor in the School of International Relations at USC. His areas of research and teaching include international relations theory, foreign policy analysis, European security, human security, and global governance. He currently teaches in the MA in Global Security housed by the Spatial Sciences Institute and in the Thematic Options Honors Program.
Professor Lamy’s current research focuses on the foreign and security policies of European members of NATO. More specifically on European policies after the invasion of Ukraine. Lamy has presented several papers on Arctic governance and security issues including a recent paper on Trump’s policy toward Greenland and the European reaction. Other work includes “The U.S. Arctic Policy Agenda: The State Trumps Other Interests” in Future Security of the Global Arctic, edited by Lassi Heininen, (Palgrave, 2015). His Oxford University Press textbook is in its eighth edition and a new book of case studies is under review by the Oxford Press. Professor Lamy has held several major administrative posts at USC including Academic Vice Dean in the Dornsife College at USC from 2007-2017. He also served as Director of the School of International Relations from 2001-2006. Professor Lamy served as an Associate Editor of International Studies Perspectives, a journal of the International Studies Association from 1999-2004. He also served on the editorial board of the Journal of Political Science Education and several book series including Paradigm Press’ International Studies Intensives and the international relations series of Cambridge University Press.
