Biography
Industry leader Seema Verma serves as the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Oracle Health and Life Sciences. She leads the roll out of Oracle’s AI-powered, next-generation electronic health record system (EHR) and is driving initiatives to bridge the gap between clinical research and clinical care to improve patient outcomes. She serves on the Board of Directors of TapestryHealth, the Eskenazi Health Foundation, and the USC Schaeffer Center Advisory Board.
Previously, she served as the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) from 2017-2021, and she was confirmed for the role by the U.S. Senate on a bipartisan basis. Ms. Verma was responsible for the federal operations of Medicare, Medicaid, Health Insurance Exchanges, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, and all federal quality and safety regulations. She also led the administration’s efforts to require price transparency for hospitals and insurers and championed the historic Patients Over Paperwork initiative. Following her tenure at CMS, Ms. Verma served as an advisor and consultant.
Ms. Verma is listed among the “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare” and “Top 25 Women Leaders in Healthcare” by Modern Healthcare. She has also been published in the “Wall Street Journal,” “Washington Post,” “Health Affairs,” “Modern Healthcare,” “Newsweek,” “CNN,” and “USA Today.” In October 2018, Ms. Verma partnered with the USC-Brookings Schaeffer Initiative for Health Policy to discuss Medicare Part D and what can be done to improve the program. Following her presentation, Ms. Verma sat down with USC Schaeffer Center for Health Policy & Economics Co-Director Dana Goldman for an interview.
Ms. Verma has a B.S. in Life Sciences from the University of Maryland. She also holds a Master of Public Health, Health Policy & Administration degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
