About

Schaeffer Center Partner Schools

The USC Schaeffer Center was created in 2009 as a partnership between the USC Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy, whose pharmacoeconomics and health policy experts remain at the center of our efforts.

USC Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

One of the top pharmacy schools nationwide and the highest-ranked private school, the USC Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences continues its century-old reputation for innovative programming, practice and collaboration.

The school created the nation’s first Doctor of Pharmacy program, the first clinical pharmacy program, the first clinical clerkships, the first doctorates in pharmaceutical economics and regulatory science, and the first PharmD/MBA dual-degree program, among other innovations in education, research and practice. The USC Mann School is the only private pharmacy school on a major health sciences campus, which facilitates partnerships with other health professionals as well as new breakthroughs in care. Uniquely, it owns and operates several community pharmacies.

The school is home to the D. K. Kim International Center for Regulatory Science at USC, the Titus Center for Medication Safety and Population Health, and the Center for Quantitative Drug and Disease Modeling, and is a partner in the USC Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy & Economics, the USC Institute for Addiction Science, the USC Ginsburg Institute for Biomedical Therapeutics, the Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the USC Center for Neuronal Longevity, and the USC Center for Drug Discovery, Delivery and Development. The school pioneered a national model of clinical pharmacy care through work in safety-net clinics throughout Southern California and is a leader in comprehensive medication management.

Vassilios Papadopoulos has served as dean since October 2016.

USC Sol Price School of Public Policy

Founded nearly a century ago, the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy is a distinguished institution dedicated to improving quality of life worldwide.

Ranked No. 3 among 268 schools with master’s programs in public affairs and administration, the USC Price School combines rigorous education, evidence-based research and interaction with community leaders to solve major challenges.

USC Price faculty and students ask difficult questions and question longstanding answers. They are leaders in their fields and deeply engaged citizens. But most of all, they are inspired by the fact that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity.

Situated in Los Angeles, a dynamic and diverse city, the school uses its location as a living lab to address global challenges. With interconnected yet distinct disciplines housed under one roof, the Price School brings multiple lenses to bear on critical issues. Our programs blend academics with hands-on learning, ensuring students from diverse backgrounds are ready to lead in government, nonprofits, and the private sector.

The School is comprised of four key departments: Public Policy and Management, Health Policy and Management, the Wilbur H. Smith III Department of Real Estate Development, and Urban Planning and Spatial Analysis. These are complemented by a wide range of prestigious research centers and institutes, providing unmatched resources to explore society’s most pressing issues.

Christopher Boone has served as dean since January 2025.
