Zoom In on Dementia & Alzheimer’s — Clinical Research Series

Organization Overview

BrightFocus Foundation is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to funding research and providing public education on Alzheimer’s disease, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Founded in 1973 as the American Health Assistance Foundation, BrightFocus has invested over $330 million in research worldwide. In the Alzheimer’s space, BrightFocus funds research on causes, treatment, and risk reduction, and operates extensive public education programs to build awareness and support for research participation.

Clinical Trial Recruitment Resource

Zoom In on Dementia & Alzheimer’s is BrightFocus Foundation’s free, interactive virtual series featuring live conversations with leading researchers. In 2024, BrightFocus expanded the series to include dedicated clinical research episodes, Zoom In on Dementia & Alzheimer’s: Clinical Research, which walk audiences through specific Alzheimer’s clinical trials and studies currently enrolling. These episodes feature renowned research scientists who explain how to find and join trials, demystify participation, and discuss trials spanning diagnostics, drug therapies, biomarker studies, and lifestyle interventions. Each episode includes a live Q&A, allowing audience members to ask researchers questions directly. The service has garnered over 1 million views, and its popularity prompted BrightFocus to develop a podcast called Let’s Talk Alzheimer’s featuring content adapted from the Zoom In series.

Discussion

BrightFocus Zoom In sessions function as a low-barrier, high-credibility awareness and recruitment pipeline. Audiences attending these sessions are already motivated—they have sought out an Alzheimer’s educational program, often because of personal or family experience with the disease. When BrightFocus dedicates Zoom In episodes specifically to explaining ongoing trials and how to participate, it reaches a self-selected, high-intent audience that is substantially more likely to follow through on trial inquiry than the general public. The free, accessible format (join by phone or Zoom) is particularly important for reaching older adults and caregivers who may face technology or mobility barriers.
