Background
Researchers examined the effectiveness and cost of a community-based recruitment effort for two dementia care studies in the Baltimore-Washington area.
Findings
The studies enrolled 664 pairs of people with dementia and their care partners: 323 (50%) of the participants with dementia were Black. A Maryland Department of Health mailing to Medicaid recipients produced the most referrals and enrollments, especially among Black participants, while professional referrals were most effective among White participants. The total estimated cost of recruitment was $101,058, or $156 per enrolled dyad.
